Aleida Vandenbosch, CACV Culture Day’s Coordinator, dishes on plans for CACV’s interactive community event.
What are you doing on September 25? If Community Arts Council of Vancouver or Culture Days doesn’t come to your mind, then you better continue reading and help us spread the word!
On September 25 from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, the Community Arts Council of Vancouver (CACV) and in partnership with Britannia Centre, is hosting a *FREE* jam-packed arts and cultures event at the Learning Resource Centre, Vancouver BC. This event is also in celebration of the Pan-Canadian volunteer movement, Culture Days, to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and culture life of their communities.
Our event, “Community and Arts throughout our Lives” kick starts with a series of interactive activities to get your creative juices flowing. Create some Famous Quotes, play People Bingo, draw a masterpiece on our online Doodle Art application, and much more.
Next on the event’s schedule is our panel discussion with local community groups and artists. Meet Jaspal, Marina, Carla, Arlin, and Lyle and hear about their community art practice and how everyone can play a part in community arts. Who are these panellists? Our moderators, Mary and Laura, will keep the dialogue moving and ask the questions you are too shy to ask. And if you love to talk, ask away!
That’s not all. After a short stretch break, join Lyle’s hands-on community drumming session and participate in some music-making. If you haven’t drummed before, here is your chance! No experience necessary and it’s a great way to meet new people too.
Let the rhythm and the beat send you off to the next hands-on activity, Mosaic Dialogue. Melanie will engage you in a community project that captures some of the themes of the day. Interact with others, participate in the various colour stations, and collage your own mosaic tile. Your piece will then be placed with the others to create a larger picture.
Our official programming ends at 4:30pm, but don’t worry because you can continue the conversation after the event. Join us for a refreshing bevy in the neighbourhood (most of us will have talked all day and will need to hydrate)! You can also post your questions and comments about our event online.
Community Arts are happening all the time in your community and on September 25, it is just one way to join the fun! If you have any questions, give me a shout and I will be delighted to answer any curious minds.
Cheers,
Aleida Vandenbosch
