“All that we are is story. From the moment we are born to the time we continue on our spirit journey, we are involved in the creation of the story of our time here… What comes to matter then is the creation of the best possible story we can while we’re here; you, me, us, together. When we can do that and we take the time to share those stories with each other, we get bigger inside, we see each other, we recognize our kinship – we change the world, one story at a time…” ~ Richard Wagamese
Reframing Relations is a way into how we will write our story together. Over the past 3 years, Reframing Relations has grown to be a feature program from the Community Arts Council of Vancouver. Indigenous and Non-Indigenous artist facilitators have led over 70 workshops this past year. Reframing Relations is an incredible opportunity for participants to ask questions, engage in meaningful dialogue, and explore their own relationship to Indigeneity, Reconciliation, and allyship. We do this through art exploration over multiple workshops, often starting with understanding what land acknowledgments mean, the history of our relationships between settlers, colonizers, guests, and First Nations, and looking ahead to what our future could be.
One of Reframing Relations founders, Ostwleve [Ronnie Dean Harris] recently shared in a workshop that “It’s about protecting the land, so that there is a future for your grandkids and my grandkids. We’re here together, so we need to understand what that means moving forward.”
