Unframing Nature Towards an Ecology of Art with presenter John K. Grande
When: Wednesday July 25 from 7-9:00pm
Where: Roundhouse Community Centre
John helped to open the way for Canadian artists of his generation by publishing nationally and internationally on their work, and he helped develop an extensive field now known as art and ecology, that encouraged a dialogue of art within the context of nature. This is evidenced in his books Art & Environment (Friendly Chameleon, 1992) Balance; Art and Nature (Black Rose 1994) which is a classic in the field of the nature-culture discourse commended by Claude Levi-Strauss and others. Other books followed: Art Nature Dialogues (SUNY NY 2004) and Dialogues in Diversity (2007).
As a curator John Grande has led the way with a series of shows at Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlingon, Ontario, and others in Sorel, Quebec, Sackville, New Brunswick (Cultural Capital of Canada in that year), Rodman Hall, St. Catharines, Ontario and more recently in Pori Finland (2011) He continues to lead the field of art and ecology, curating an international Earth Art 2012 at Van Disen Gardens, Vancouver. He is publishing Art, Space, Ecology in Shanghai, China, and Art into Nature in South Korea was recently published by Borim Press.
