Community Arts Dialogues

We regularly convene community arts dialogues to bring together artists, community members and those just interested in “creating community through the arts”.

The goals of our dialogues are to:

Facilitate networking
Share tools, resources and best practices
Explore and increase awareness of community arts – what are its forms and what are the benefits?
Identify needs for the community arts in Vancouver

The Community Arts Council of Vancouver invites you to come and join the conversation about community arts in Vancouver. We’ll talk, meet, and even make art together!

Gift Circle – You’ll be invited to share (and receive) resources through a gift circle.

There will be an art-making “break” to create webs of connection to symbolize our strength when working together.

Come meet fellow art enthusiasts and discuss how experiencing art can promote self-confidence, social justice, acceptance and growth.

Most of the sessions are participative and aimed at artists and supporters sharing their thoughts.

Change of heART: Self-empowerment by Design (September 2012)

We attended Survivor 101 for Community Arts Organizations (November 22, 2012).

We partnered with Emily Carr University of Art + Design, the City of Vancouver and Park Board on Culture + Community: Visioning Social Practice (November 30, 2012).

We held a dialogue as part of Langara College’s Summer School on building sustainable communities, entitled The ABC’s of ABCD (Arts-Based Community Development) in July 2012.

Since 2011, Our Community Arts Dialogues bring together community artists and members to discuss how the arts can contribute to healthy community development. The dialogues provides community members and artists a shared and safe platform to:

Identify current social issues in Vancouver that communities are facing,
Promote cultural awareness, appreciation and understanding,
Find ways to create welcoming spaces through increased visibility of community art in the public,
Share stories, listen to others, and connect with each other through shared-experiences,
Develop creative ideas to empower community members to be active cultural citizens.

We hosted our Community Arts Dialogue and invited community members to participate in a creative discussion on Interculturalism. We explored the idea of Interculturalism and what it meant to live interculturally.
