In a series of five workshops, multidisciplinary artists and seasoned workshop facilitators Franz Seachel, Anjalica Solomon, Patricia Naguiat, Alisha Sian, and Alyssa Amarsi led participants through different process-based play and expressive art explorations. The artists guided participants through meditations, shared their poetry, music, art, and dance works in progress and guided participants into flow-state collaborative creation that was land-based. Covering topics such as creative blocks from a neuro-psychological lens, movement and dance, drawing, finding inspiration through other works by collaging, and poetry with a focus on somatic practice, mindfulness, and meditation, these workshops served to create a safe and encouraging environment for its participants; diving into the exploration of different artistic practices and creation methods from a low-stakes and playful angle. By building participants art-based practices in a way that centre process over production and building community, we attempted to decolonize how we make art.
“I loved the Enable Play sessions, they allowed me to explore my creativity and play, connect with the community and experience healing moments. The facilitators held space in such a beautiful way and encouraged authentic exploration. I’d love to see more spaces like these!” —Lesley
“I had a really positive experience going to the Enable Play sessions. I was really nervous to attend as an outsider, but they all created a warm and welcoming space in their community!!! I appreciated all the teachings they all brought to the table. The sessions combined, helped me deep dive within and express myself which is hard to do in today’s society as a POC !!!!” — A
