CACV is excited to announce that we are looking to hire two artists to join our Reframing Relations program as school and community workshop facilitators! Check out the posting (link below) and apply with your resume and a cover letter to info@cacv.ca by March 15, 2017.
Reframing Relations started as a desire to engage youth in meaningful conversations about the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada. Our intent is that youth of all backgrounds have the opportunity to critically engage in self-reflection, locating themselves within Canada’s history and contemporary reality with regards to Indigenous relations, using their imaginations and aesthetic sense as a way into difficult conversations. After consulting with a number of Indigenous arts organizations and getting a sense of what already existed in schools, and not knowing if we were the right organization to be putting this kind of programming forward, we approached the Vancouver School Board Aboriginal Education Department. The response we received was: “Thanks for finally showing up, now let’s get to work!” With initial funding from the Telus Community Foundation, the Surrey School District, and the BC Arts Council (for community settings), that’s just what we did. Our pilot program launch coincides with fundamental changes to the BC curriculum to integrate Indigenous Education into every aspect of learning. Reframing Relations is an exciting opportunity to support our Vancouver school district, teachers, workers, and students in making this shift.
